Tax Provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

Congress has approved and the President has signed new economic stimulus legislation, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The IRS is working closely with Congress and the administration on the stimulus legislation and will implement tax-related provisions of the new program as quickly as possible. SBA Warns of Scam

The U.S. Small Business Administration issued a scam alert today to small

businesses, warning them not to respond to letters falsely claiming to have been sent by the SBA asking for bank account information in order to qualify them for federal tax rebates.

Information Reporting of Payments Made in Settlement of Payment Card and Third Party Network Transactions

Notice 2009-19 invites public comments regarding guidance to be provided persons who will be required to file information returns under section 6050W of the Internal Revenue Code. Section 6050W requires information returns to be made for each calendar year by merchant acquiring entities and third party settlement organizations with respect to payments made in settlement of payment card transactions and third party payment network transactions occurring in that calendar year.  This requirement to make information returns applies to returns for calendar years beginning after December 31, 2010. Notice 2009-19 will appear in IRB 2009-10, dated March 9, 2009.
