FYI: Deadline to participate in 2016 Annual Filing Season Program is Apr. 18

FYI:

IRS has issued 56,000+ Annual Filing Season Program Records of Completion. However, over 32,000 non-credentialed tax return preparers need to take the final step of consenting to adhere to subpart B and section 10.51 of Circular 230.

April 18, 2016, is the last day they can take this step and participate in the 2016 program.

Without an Annual Filing Season Program Record of Completion, they will have no representation rights regarding tax returns they prepare this year if the returns are later audited (unless they later become an attorney, CPA or enrolled agent).

IRS has sent multiple communications to these PTIN holders explaining this step. On April 1, IRS will send a final email reminding them the deadline is approaching.  (A copy of the email is attached below).

IRS has created a video tutorial to show PTIN holders how to sign the C230 consent online.

Please share this information with tax professional organizations and other parties who may be interested.  Thank you!
